Course Description

This course is the first graduate level course in electromagnetic theory.  In this course we will develop a mathematical understanding of electromagnetic waves and their interactions with materials and structures.  Specifically, this course will cover topics such as plane waves, reflection and transmission, waveguides, scattering, radiation and an introduction to numerical methods in electromagnetics.  It is assumed that the students have a general knowledge of vector analysis, differential and integral calculus and have completed an introductory course in electromagnetic theory.

Course Syllabus

Introduction to Maxwell’s Equations

Electrical Properties of Matter

Wave Equation and its Solutions

Wave Propagation and Polarization

Reflection and Transmission

Introduction to Waveguides

Introduction to EM Scattering and Radiation

Numerical Solution of EM Problems
