Auto-wireless-win

Automatic Installer for Windows Users

This is a beta test for users joining the new wireless network of the EE/CIS department. This new network (as explained in the FAQs) aims to reduce the administrative overhead of registering mobile systems, both university and user owned, while keeping the network secure.

It is still required for Windows users to install an application to support the security features of the new network. This application is the SecureW2 supplicant. A link to the installers is below:

Installer for Windows XP users

Installer for Windows Vista users

NOTE: If you had attempted to connect to the ECE-DMZ or CIS-DMZ networks, make sure you remove those networks from your wireless list. They are not necessary and the priorities of Windows might take you to those instead of taking you to the acad network.

NOTE to Vista Users: The automatic installer will not enable the "connect even if the network SSID is not broadcasted". It is required to go to "Manage Wireless Networks", right-click on "acad" and edit the properties to enable this feature (It's a check box on the wireless network properties window).

Once you are ready to connect to the wireless network, a balloon will popup from the tray: Wireless Network Connection Click here to select a certificate or other credentials for connection to the network acad

After you click on the balloon, a small window appears asking for your username, password and domain. Please leave the Domain box empty and add your Unix username and its corresponding password. If you want to save that information on the computer you are using check the "Save user credentials" box.

NOTE: Windows XP has problems with the priorities of the wireless networks, and it will always try to connect to non-secure networks, no matter the order of your wireless networks. If your computer keeps connecting to another network, please try with this patch from Microsoft (There is a local copy Here).
