ComputerLabsOn this page... (hide) 1. 051 McKinly LabThe systems in this lab are maintained by ECE/CIS and have 2 Operating Systems installed: Solaris and Windows. While running Solaris, Linux applications can also be ran. For remote access into one of these systems running Solaris the host alias 1.1 Solaris InfoSolaris is the default OS system will boot into and is for CISC classes. An ECE/CIS Academic account is required to login. The systems use the same home directories as other ECE/CIS Academic systems. The systems have a graphical login screen that will by default start up the Java Desktop System (JDS/GNOME). If you have any problems logging in with JDS you may select Sessions at the bottom of the login screen and then "Failsafe Terminal". To log out of JDS select launch at the bottom left and then "Log Out...". Once logged in, a terminal can be opened with a right click of the mouse and select "Open Terminal". Several applicationare available from the Launch menu. Some of the more popular programs can be started from a terminal or added to the Launch menu include firefox, thunderbird, ooffice and sunstudio. A USB key drive can be inserted in the front USB ports and would be available at 1.2 Linux InfoJust run 1.3 Windows InfoTo boot into Windows select Actions at the bottom of the login screen, then "Reboot the Computer" then OK. The system will then start and a menu will be presented, for 20 seconds, to select the OS to run. Select the Windows option. To log into Windows use the account name of ASguest with no password. This is the only account available in Windows. Windows has a locked configuration and any changes made will be undone when the system is rebooted. After you are done with Windows you should log out. Please do NOT power off the systems. The systems will automatically boot back into Solaris after 30 minutes of idle time. 1.4 McKinly Computer Specifications:
