NfsupgradeECE/CIS Research NFS Server Upgrade Summer 2006The major upgrade for Overview of upgradeThe old mail server hardware will become the new NFS fileserver for ECE/CIS research systems. The filesystems included are home directories that are available to research Solaris systems like With the larger disks there will be much more storage space available for user home directories. Solaris software for both sparc and x86/amd64 systems will also be served from this system with more space available for future software packages. As a result all Solaris systems will need to be rebooted after the upgrade is complete. Use of ZFSThe server will use ZFS extensively for its many features including reliability and performance. Read more about here. The NFS server will use the same snapshot policy as described in the preceding link. Snapshots provide readonly backup copies of filesystems. Larger quotasThere will be larger quotas installed. The quotas will be set to be 10GB for faculty, 2GB for grads and staff and 1GB for others. Be aware that these quotas will also include snapshots and files that make the 11pm snapshot will not free up space until a week after they are deleted.
