In Spring 2012, I will offer ELEG 682 (Optics and Photonics). This course is crosslisted with ELEG 482.
Course Objective: To provide an introduction to the operating principles of photonic devices used in various digital transmission and information processing systems. The emphasis is on the generation (via lasers) and detection of optical signals.
The book I will be using is "Fundamentals of Photonics" (2nd edition) by Bahaa E. A. Saleh and Malvin C. Teich.
