The ACM-ICPC is a two-tiered competition. Regional contests are held from September to December 1999. Sixty teams will be selected to advance to the World Finals in Orlando, Florida, March 15-19, 2000. Prizes, scholarships, and bragging rights are at stake for some of the world's finest students of computing. Regional contests are open to all institutions of higher learning, with competitions held among 3-person teams. Contestants are given five hours to solve a series of problems that test their programming skills and abilities in a number of different areas of computer science. Winners advance to the World Finals and are provided travel assistance. Scholarships and prizes are awarded to winners of the World Finals.
