		       RT-11 V5.5 RELEASE NOTES ADDENDA
		       ================================

This file lists the new features of RT-11 Version 5.5. The features are
described in the RT-11 System Release Notes, AA-5286K-TC.

The following are the main features of RT-11 V5.5:

	 o New documentation:

Rewritten and expanded Introduction to RT-11.	Use the
Introduction to RT-11 as your primary reference

Rewritten PDP-11 Keypad Editor User's Guide and Reference
		 Card

		 New RT-11 Automatic Installation Guide

o Extended device-unit support, providing up to 64 DU device
units and up to 32 LD logical disk units (requires SYSGEN)

o Full MSCP error logging support for DU and MU devices (requires
SYSGEN). An answer file (XMEL.ANS) is provided to assist in
the system generation for error logging support

	 o KED editor enhancements:

		 Initialization files

		 Journaling (editing session protection)

		 Expanded macro capabilities

o UNIBUS mapping registers (UMR) support, provided by the new UB
pseudohandler. UMR support provides access to the full
4M-bytes of memory on UNIBUS processors during DMA I/O
	    operations

	 o BUP (BACKUP) utility enhancements:

Wildcard backup, restore, and directory operations

		 Multiple savesets with disk-to-disk backups

o Magtapes written by RT-11 can be read by the VMS operating
system. Modification to the file structure module (FSM)
provides a more ANSI-compatible magtape format

o SPOOL.SAV, a virtual (XM monitor) version of the SPOOL utility
that supports multiple input sources and multiple output
	    devices

o The AT pseudohandler, providing support for virtual to physical
address translation under the XM monitor

		 .GFSTA
		 .SFINF
		 .SFSTA

	 o New Special functions (SPFUNs):

		 SF.SIZ (32-bit volume sizing)
		 SF.W32 (32-bit non-file-structured writes)
		 SF.R32 (32-bit non-file-structured reads)

o New System Subroutines and Functions

		 DATE/DATE4Y
		 IDATE
		 ICLOSZ
		 ICNTXS
		 IDCOMP
		 IFWILD
		 IGFDAT
		 IGFINF
		 IGFSTA

		 IGTENT
		 IHERR/ISERR
		 IPROTE/IUNPRO
		 ISFINF
		 ISFSTA
		 ISWILD
		 IWEEKD
		 KPEEK/KPOKE
XHANDL (new overlay handler in SYSLIB)

o Support in certain SYSLIB routines for an extension of the
directory entry creation date to the year 2099

	 o New extended memory subroutines:

		 $JBLOC
		 $MPMEM

o INDEXX.SAV, a new virtual (XM monitor) version of the INDEX
	    utility program

o Inclusion of a system macro library, SYSTEM.MLB, that contains
system macros that define and standardize symbolic names,
	    values, and data structure offsets
								      Page 3

o Support for the following devices:

		 RA82

		 TU81+

o Abort processing changes to more fully support internally
	    queued device handlers

o Generalized MOUNT and DISMOUNT command

o New FORTRAN command options to support FORTRAN-77

o KERNEL global region, allowing virtual programs to access all
memory with the .CRRG and .CRAW requests

o Support for creating a second DU handler

o Character/numeric symbol conversion enhancement to IND
