February 2003 Archive
- 2/26/03
- /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf has been edited to allow [home] writability.
- New plans for the web server. It's still going to do all the stuff I said, but it's now going to be a drop-in replacement for maccarony.
- 2/24/03
- We're setting up butterfly.udel.edu as an Ultra 1 which is going to be taking over all the hosting duties for ntp.org. Also, I've been working on my proof-of-concept NTP web page, and it's looking pretty nice.
- 2/19/03
- I have griped to have maccarony resolve as maccarony.udel.edu in addition to ntp.org. I really hate looking for "maccarony" and not being able to find it.
- 2/14/03
- Steve and I did a lot of revamping of the ntp web site today.
- Rackety and grundoon are running old openssh but I'm not sure what to do about that.
- 2/13/03
- Doing some final testing from all the hosts to all the other hosts with ssh. It takes a long time.
- Results from the testing are available as users conner and root.
- We officially don't care about hepzibah and snavely's minor ssh problems.
- 2/12/03
- Did a monsterous amount of SSH fixing today. Changed .shosts on deacon, updated host key links on howland and beauregard, and changed some SUID bits on ssh-keysign on howland and beauregard.
- Moved pogo:/etc/inet/ipnodes to pogo:/usr/local/etc/ipv6_ipnodes_common and symlinked it on pogo, baldwin, and bridgeport.
- The above fix for ipnodes didn't fix ssh ipv6 login on bridgeport. I am mystified, but blame Harish.
- Current problems: Snavely can't ssh to snavely (!), and hepzibah can't ssh to mort.
- /pogo -> /m/pogo on albert constructed. This faciliates automated NTP building. Requested by Stenn.
- 2/11/03
- A minor water leak has occured in the lab. Not too big a deal. Authorities are notified.
- EECIS says changes will propagate tomorrow. I can resume fixing SSH then.
- Been talking to Steve Kostecke, the ntp.org webmaster, about things to do to the web site.
- 2/10/03
- Working on more sshd stuff. IPv6 ssh should be working once the proepr EECIS stuff has been done. I griped it.
- Some of the machines, the backroom especially, have very old ssh_known_hosts that prevents some logins. I will update all of these once the new ipv6 stuff comes down from eecis.
- Snavely's host key was messed up in the database operations over ssh involving snavely will be funky until I propagate the known hosts through. This is due to the install script helping us out a little too much.
- I'm going to wait for the known hosts files to stabilize again.
- 2/8/03
- Worked from home today due to the snow.
- The web page I made now works ok in netscape 4 and internet explorer 5 for Mac OS X.
- Emailed the webdudes list about it. Thought I was emailing the webmaster only. Oops.
- 2/7/03
- Added stuff to pogo:/etc/distfile to send ssh_known_hosts2 files around. Let's see if it works.
- Someone look at my work for the day, dangit. I spent a LONG time on it and I need some love.
- 2/5/03
- Hepzibah is working for ssh to pogo now.
- 2/4/03
- My proposal for porkypine is to have an RSA key for pogo's root user that will allow login. I don't quite know how to configure the RSA login stuff for ssh 1.2.27, and there is no manpage for that version on porkypine.
- SSH from host to pogo as root is confirmed working for:
- Albert
- Baldwin
- Beauregard
- Bridgeport
- Bunnylou
- Cowbird
- Deacon
- Hepzibah
- Howland
- Malarky
- Mort
- Snavely
- Whimsy
- SSH isn't working properly from host to pogo on:
- I can't test grundoon's or rackety's ssh->pogo since I can't SU
- ssh_known_hosts{'','2'} have been manually distributed to cowbird/bunnylou, albert, snavely, and hepzibah.
- Dealing with EECIS has been frustrating today. I've been waiting for them to get hepzibah into the mills netgroup so I can test hepzibah->pogo.
- 2/3/03
- Terminals have been reactivated on albert again.
- Albert is ready for full-time duty.
- The EECIS crew (BMiller) are updating the known hosts files.
- The following machines have hostbased auth working with root at pogo:
- albert
- baldwin
- beauregard
- bridgeport
- bunnylou
- cowbird
- deacon
- grundoon
- hepzibah
- howland
- malarky
- mort
- rackety
- snavely
- whimsy
- Notable exceptions to the above list are:
- Messed with porkypine a bit, notabley with /.rhosts. No luck.
- RSA-host-based auth on porkypine is an interest that I'll look at another time, like tomorrow.
