Welcome to my homepage
My name is Daniel Yehdego and I am currently a graduate student at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) majoring in Computational Science. I am working for the summer 2011 under Dr. Michela Taufer on the possibility of using MapReduce for parallelizing predictions of RNA secondary structures. After searching and analysing other bioinformatics applications that successfully used MapReduce paradigm and collecting background information from papers that have used this paradigm for RNA secondary structure prediction, the goal is to use Hadoop and implement a new application for RNA secondary structure predictions. My area of interest is in implementing parallel programming to different Bioinformatics applications.
Before joining the computational science program at UTEP, I have worked on MD ab initio pressure induced phase transformation of materials using the SIESTA package as part of my M.Sc research thesis. For the last 3 years, I have been involved in different research and teaching activities at departments of physics and computational science of the University of Texas at El Paso.
During my leisure time, I like to play competitive football, watch new movies and go out for a walk and trying different spicy foods.
