Parse Tree Application

by Keith Trnka (trnka@cis.udel.edu)

About

The Parse Tree Application (PTA) draws parse trees. It doesn't do any parsing, just the drawing part. Parses of the same sentence may be compared visually in PTA. It accepts XML and labeled bracketing as input, and can produce SVG, EPS, PNG, or JPG images of the drawn tree. For a more thorough explanation of the formats, download the application and read the corresponding help document.

Note that there are some flaws - if you're on Mac OS, apple-Q closes Java, which doesn't seem to tell PTA that it's exiting. So it doesn't save settings if that happens. Also, naturally as a side project there will be some other flaws (like occasionally the lines cris-cross).

Versions

1.0 (2011-07-23)
This version ships as the jar file. Everything necessary should be inside - just download and run the zip file. It probably requires Java 1.6 or newer.

Changes:

1.0 beta (a long time ago...)
This version ships as a zip file - extract that and you can run the jar file inside. To run it, you can double-click the file on some operating systems. Or you can run java-jar PTA.jar from a command prompt. Requires Java 1.5 or newer.

Feedback

I'd love to have some feedback on your experience with PTA, even if it worked just fine.
