Although you are by no means required to do so, I figure I'd mention that it is possible to write homework assignments on the computer. The two ways I know of doing so are to use good word processing software (such as Microsoft Word or OpenOffice.org Writer) or use TeX/LaTeX. The second way requires a little bit of learning, so I won't say much more on that except that there's a relatively good LaTeX-based WYSIWYG editor called LyX. For word processing software, you can insert formulas into your current document via the insert menu in both programs. For MS Word, it is in the Insert:Object menu (if I remember correctly). There should be an option in the scroll list for Microsoft Formula. If not, you probably didn't install that option when you setup MS Office. For OpenOffice.org Writer, the procedure is essentially the same.
