Due to popular demand, I have prepared a sample
lab report. The idea here is that you have something to look at for guidance
when you prepare your own lab reports. You do not have to follow the format
to the letter. Remember, this is one of many possible formats. You should
write in a way that suits your own style. However, there are certain items
that have to be present in your report and you will find that indeed they
are present in the sample report. I suggest that you compare the lab manual
with the lab report. Starting from the top:
-
Every question posed in the lab manual (the preparation
section) has been addressed in the lab report. The answers are brief
and they are underlined to make them easy to find.
-
A brief analysis of the explored circuits
has been presented. It points out the region of parameters (frequency in
this case) that is of interest for each of the explored circuits (note
that adequate preparation for the lab is essential to get these right).
-
A brief description of the procedure has been
included.
-
All measurements requested in the lab manual have
been done, properly recorded and reported.
-
The results are presented in the form requested by
the lab manual (frequency on a log scale, transmission in dB, etc.).
-
Comparison of the results obtained experimentally
with those expected from theory has been presented as requested in the
lab manual.
-
Detailed analysis and discussion of the results
has been presented. The analysis points out both agreements and disagreements
between the theory and the experiment. An attempt is made to explain discrepancies.
Every statement made in the Results and discussion section has a
support in experimental results.
-
A statement about accomplishing the lab objectives
has been included.
I hope that this sample lab report will help you improve your own reports.
If you find any errors or omissions in it, please e-mail
me (or anonymously).
