Root architecture impacts the ability of plants
to anchor into the soil, and thereby functions in stabilization of soil
structure. Root density in soil also regulates the nutrient and water
quenching which directs plant productivity. We have developed image-based
modeling tools for studying root and branch growth. We seek to advance the
understanding of the spatial organization of roots/branches using a portal
acquisition system to extract the 3D geometry. |
