This is the page for the 89 IROC - a work in progress.

9/1/00: Fresh new paint job, pixel modified tag picture.

This section of my website contains lots of scattered info on the performance upgrades on my "flame red" 89 Iroc. This was a stock Tuned Port 5.7L (L98) automatic car, of which about 12,000 were made in 1989. I have been into chip tuning since 1996 and now know enough (and know enough about who to ask when I need help) to make the stock computer able to run an engine with a little more than just common modifications. Click to read about the emissions legal Tuned-Port-Injected 383 project.

I have some Software utilities I keep here online. Just some, not all. Simple little things mostly. If you tune thirdgens or anything else they may augment your collection of free or "share" stuff available on the web, that you probably didn't send the five bucks in for. Shame. These are "guilt" free ;-P.

2-2-01: Dyno runs! - the bigger HP run was with a dry 32 jet of NOS. The other 2 runs were identical, except the bigger HP one was with a bit of spark advance after the shifts - the engine apparently liked it. The AVG rear wheel HP thru my automatic shift points (ie, letting the trans shift in D) is 242. I changed the governor and thus the shift points using this dyno data.. should see a gain. Here is a picture of the car on the chassis dyno.

MORE DYNO RUNS Check out some basic chip tuning concepts in action.

12-05-00: Pics of Driveshaft "Half Loop". Note the grease-fitting type U-joint.. It is NOT recommended to use these as they are weaker. Half a loop is not recommended either I imagine... IN fact, understand that this loop has not been raced, Its 'in-progress' in the garage. The picture is here kinda prematurely cause of a question someone posted on a message board I was trying to contribute to. a new picture soon when its completed ;-] DSL1 DSL2

10-28-00: Here are some pictures from E-town Raceway Park - the GM-EFI shootout

10-22-00: Click to see pictures and descriptions of the Injector Swap. I did. It's not that hard.

10-21-00: Here are some pictures of the MAFB event called Dragathon 6 . It was held in conjunction with the M.I.R. E.F.I. shootout, where I made it to the quarter finals. Yea suprised me too.

Like my replacement TPI decals? a subtle little clue as to whats under the hood, located on the effects under the fenders in the factory location...if you get close enough to read it AND if you know that it normally says "5.7 Tuned Port Injection" (5.7L = 350 CID, 6.2L is about a 383 CID... Yea I know its 6.27L... I just rounded down) it makes your face do this funny 'huh?' look. I actually had someone ask me "How many of THOSE did they make?" It matches the OEM typestyle. An outfit in Canada made them for me... www.DecalKing.com if these things excite you.

This car I never really got a web page started for until I had owned it for a year. I bought it in 98 and it had a 5.7, Subframe connectors, flow improver, slightly lowered springs and struts and an eclipse 2x320 / 4x100 indash cd system w/ a big subwoofer box in the back. I left the stereo stuff in and added a used Paxton supercharger, then took it back off when the center bearing got a chunk chipped off it. I rebuilt the supercharger with a new center and sold the kit... too many things to go wrong with so many extra bolt on parts.

This car is slated for an engine replacement. SEE THE 383 PROJECT ABOVE.

I installed a Paxton Supercharger a few months after I got it. Picture: Supercharger installed
It went a 13.5 quarter mile, an improvement over the 14.80 when in NA form. The SC spun the center core and I rebuilt it and sold it.theres a guy from some wheel company that is authorized to repair the "really old" paxtons. "paradise wheel" its called. if you really want the number I can dig it up. Paxton won't touch the SN 89's. They also sent me the friggin wrong part, 4 months late! oh well.

1/15/00 I hit a couple of deer in fall 99 and the car went into my very small 1 car garage to have some panels replaced and other nose parts. as of this date it is still there. I hit one deer and (advice: if you hit an animal, call the police so the insurance company does not have to rely on the inspector finding deer hair to validate the claim) and before I could make the appointment for the damage estimate I hit another one. 16 years driving, never hit anything and WHAM, 2 in a week. well you think getting insurance companies toact quickly is hard? try that story on them. Actually I zipped right thru the estimate. (TIP: if you hit something with the nose of your camaro, preserve the air Y pipe and the fog lights as much as you can. you can't find them and they are EXPENSIVE!) The damage to my $4000 car was $4600 total...but for 2 seperate claims, so I guess it did not trigger a "total" loss. Good for me. I am doing all of the panel and component replacement myself, and saved enough to help with the new shortblock buildup. (Garaged Picture) slowly getting attention. The nose is off and the bumper is sitting on top of the engine. Pretty sad looking.

as of 3/00 it is still there (another, later Picture) Great strides here... The engine is IN but needs a few dozen hours to put all the stuff backin the right place.

Here are the DEER DAMAGE PICTURES. They are large and high resolution so they take a long time.
4/25/00: Finally a moment to update the page a bit. Engine is in, running, I'm tuning now. see the 383 project page for details (if they are there yet). 2 F-body events were rained out in a row. no E.T's yet. I have a set of BFG Drag radials on now too.

(sometime after april)... Here is a picture from Dragathon (rained out) at M.I.R. The car has run 13.10's after the headers were installed. Torque is estimated at 450 ft/lbs at 2500 RPM! I beleive it after a 1.75 60' time on stock sized bfg drag radials.

08-16-00 Here are the latest pictures. It goes in for paint next week.
