Dr. Sandra M. Carberry, Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences, is one of four recipients of the 1993 University of Delaware Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award. With research specialties in artificial intelligence and interactive systems, she has taught the freshman level introductory general computer science course many times.
 
Dr. Kathleen F. McCoy, Associate Professor of Computer and Information Sciences and Director of the University of Delaware's Center for Applied Science and Engineering in Rehabilitation, joined the University of Delaware in 1985 after receiving an MS and PhD in Computer and Information Science from the University of Pennsylvania. She received the University of Delaware Excellence in Teaching Award in 1997. Her research focuses in the area of Natural Language Processing and applying Artificial Intelligence techniques to develop applications for people with disabilities. She frequently teaches the Honors sections of the freshman level C++ programming course.
 
Dr. Lori L. Pollock, Associate Professor of Computer and Information Sciences and Chair of the CIS Department's Undergraduate Program Committee, joined the University of Delaware in 1991, having received her MS and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986. Prior to coming to Delaware, she was an Assistant Professor in computer science at Rice University. She received the University of Delaware Excellence in Teaching Award in 2001. She utilizes active group learning in her courses regularly and has taught the freshman level introductory programming course several times.
