If you like math ...

CS is for you because:

  • It gives you the opportunity to apply math in practical domains (Emily heard that women predominantly went into math because they could teach it, not practically apply it. Are the phd degree numbers for women in math much higher than women in cs?)
  • CS is also about statistical analysis of information

If you like science ...

CS is for you because: (maybe make this more practical by focusing on what CS will give you -- "with CS, you can: help people, find new drugs, fight cancer, enrich people's lives, conduct ground-breaking scientific research in any discipline, etc...."

  • It enables interdisciplinary research, with CS you can do research in practically any other discipline (yes, but why would they choose to study CS, rather than just the science they really want to do? I would reword as: "Research in almost every science now relies on computer science principles..." or something more along the lines of what they gain by studying computer science)
  • Searching for new drugs is done first computationally
  • Other applications in bioinformatics and genomics

If you want to help people ...

CS is for you because:

  • Analysis of medical images can potentially save people
  • Something about interfaces for people with disabilities
  • Make the internet more people friendly
  • Help people manager their daily lives with smart kitchens (access your fridge contents before you leave work)
  • Create robots to help blind and disabled people be more independent

If you want to interact with people... (many woman think that by studying CS they would be isolated)

  • Does anybody know anything about research of social behavior in social networks?
  • Learn about behavior patterns and predict the next big movie or style trend
  • Collaborate with designers, end-users, and other team members to design interactive systems
  • Computer science is done in teams, and many teams have diverse opinions and backgrounds. It is not a solitary occupation at all

What else?

  • Get a high-paying job in one of the fastest growing industries (e.g.: "so-and-so predicts that the number of tech jobs will quadruple by the year 2010")
  • Flexible career options enable you to work anywhere, from anywhere (Great point!!)
