Vanguard scholarships

Vanguard is pleased to announce two student scholarship opportunities.

The Vanguard Women in Information Technology Scholarship

The Vanguard Women in Information Technology Scholarship provides merit-based scholarships of up to $8,000.00 to female students studying computer science, computer engineering, web design or another IT-related field. To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a female college student entering your senior year of college in fall 2010.
  • Be enrolled full-time in a four-year accredited college or university in the United States.
  • Be pursuing a major in computer science, computer engineering, web design, or another IT-related discipline.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States.

The Vanguard Scholarship Program

The Vanguard Scholarship Program provides merit-based scholarships of up to $10,000.00 to students pursuing studies in business, finance, economics, accounting, information technology and liberal arts. To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be entering their senior year of college in fall 2010.
  • Be a member of a racial minority.
  • Be enrolled full-time in a four-year accredited college or university in the United States.
  • Be pursuing studies in business, finance, economics, accounting, information technology or the liberal arts.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be a U.S, citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States.

Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing

September 30 - October 3 in Tuszon, AZ

Is a series of conferences designed to bring the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront. Presenters are leaders in their respective fields, representing industrial, academic and government communities. Leading researchers present their current work, while special sessions focus on the role of women in today's technology fields, including computer science, information technology, research and engineering.

CRA-W Grad Cohort for Women

March 27-28 in San Mateo, CA

Is a workshop geared towards first, second, and third year graduate students. The workshop was initiated in 2004 and funded by generous donations from Microsoft and Google. It aims to increase the ranks of senior women in computing by building and mentoring nationwide communities of women through their graduate studies. Applications for the 2009 workshop will be available around late January. More information will be posted as 2009's program is announced.

Is now soliciting summer 2009 applications for students and faculty mentors for the CRA-W/CDC Distributed Research Experiences for Undergraduates (DREU) Program (formally known as DMP). The announcement below describes the DREU program and provides links to the on-line student and mentor applications.

PLOSA 2009 CRAW-CDC

This workshop will provide professional development for approximately 50 graduate students and early-career researchers and faculty (2 to 4 years from graduation) in under-represented groups with research interests in programming languages, operating systems, and architecture.
