NSF Research Infrastructure Compute Cluster Usage Policy

$Date: 2003/02/27 19:52:16 $

The NSF Research Infrastructure Compute Cluster is a restricted research cluster. Only the faculty named on the grant and students and research associates they have designated have accounts on this cluster. As this is a research cluster being used by a large group it is important that experiments do not interfere with each other. In particular, some timed experiments must not be disturbed by outside load. As a result we have implemented a calendar reservation system. Currently, this is on the Honor System. If you need to use the cluster please check the calendar to see if anybody has reserved to use the machine(s) you want to use during that time. Please make reservations if (and, generally, only if) your experiment requires that others stay off the machines you are using. Note that with 4 cpu's these machines can handle 4 simultaneous single-threaded processes with full efficiency. Exception: high memory demand processes.

Please respect your fellow researchers and do not interfere with experiments for which reservations have been put on the calendar. Remember, this is on the honor system. Check the calendar.

Only research related to the grant proposal should be done on these machines. That means no classwork not explicitly assigned to the cluster, no trying to break DES or RSA encryption, or other non-research activities.

Time may be reserved by using the Reservation Form.
Reservations that have already been made can be found on the Calendar.

Remember, to respect the research efforts of your fellow researchers so that this cluster can be used effectively.
